"Section 48904 of the Education Code provides that parents or guardians are responsible for property loaned to students." Our school is authorized to withhold the final report card, transcripts or diplomas until all debts are cleared.
It is the policy of the Los Angeles Unified School District to seek restitution, including but not limited to, when a student willfully cuts, defaces, causes the loss, non-return or otherwise injures any property, real or personal, belonging to the school district or school employee. The parent/guardian is liable for such damages, not exceeding $7,500.
